Whole Bean 101: Tips for Storage
We offer some of the best beans that are ethically sourced and sustainably grown. That's why Chameleon Organic Coffee is a staple for any coffee lover’s kitchen. However, that high quality flavor and "just-right" consistency you love can only be achieved if the beans are stored properly.
Follow these tips for storing your whole bean coffee to maximize quality.
KEEP WHOLE BEAN COFFEE IN ITS ORIGINAL PACKAGING
For most of us, our whole bean coffee is left in its original bag and readily accessible next to our coffee maker of choice. This simple storage works just fine as long as the bag is properly sealed.
Chameleon Tip: Keep the bag fully sealed after opening by rolling the top down tightly and closing it with the bag tabs.
STORE YOUR BEANS IN AN AIRTIGHT, DARK CONTAINER
The most important tip for storing whole bean coffee is keeping it in a cool, dark place. We recommend using a stainless steel Airspace kitchen canister to preserve the beans in the ideal environment.
Chameleon Tip: Keep the opaque jar of coffee beans inside of a cabinet for more darkness and cooler temperatures. Do not use glass for storage!
VACUUM-SEAL AND FREEZE COFFEE BEANS FOR FUTURE USE
If you like to plan ahead when making coffee, measure out the amount of beans you will grind and vacuum-seal them for later. Put the vacuum-sealed bag into the freezer until ready to use.
Chameleon Tip: Whenever you are ready to brew your coffee, remove your pre-measured bag from the freezer and grind for brewing.
Avoid glass containers and storing coffee bean bags in the fridge or freezer
Glass containers might look adorable and chic storing your coffee beans, but these jars do not preserve the beans as they don't create a cool, dark environment. Freezing your coffee bags (without using the vacuum-sealed method) also creates problems. Keeping non-vacuum sealed coffee in the freezer may allow for moisture and odors from your freezer to be absorbed into the beans.
Chameleon Organic Coffee comes in three vibrant whole bean varieties: Guatemala, Day Breaker, and Dark & Handsome. But if whole bean isn't your jam, check out our ground coffees: Guatemala Ground, Dark & Handsome Ground, and Churro Ground! You can purchase all our coffee from our website or find a store near you.
